In terms of pedagogical and technological advances, I am confident to say I have done my best to keep up with the latest teaching techniques. First of all, I attended various workshops provided by the Center for Academic Excellence and Student Engagement (CAESE) including Learning outcomes approach to curricular redesign, Inclusive excellence, and Curricular redesign online program. I also attended the Faculty College provided by the University of Wisconsin System for four days in the summer of 2010.
I do not hesitate to use the newest technologies in my classes. I actively use Desire2Learn (D2L), which is a platform for online course management used by the University of Wisconsin system. I use most functions on D2L including grading, dropbox submission with turninit.com, class mapping, rubrics, discussion board, and electronic portfolio. I have also used Skype teleconferences so that guest speakers from a distance can participate in my classes. This has given students the opportunity to listen to experts in the field from all around the country. I also used Ustream live broadcast in my Introduction to PR class to help students create news conferences. I will use it again for my Sports PR class, in which my students need to put on news conferences in front of the students in the Sports Journalism class. Lastly, I have students use clickers in my Intro to PR class to take in-class quizzes and poll their opinions. From time to time, I have a quiz show activity using clickers in class, which students enjoy very much.
